There are some things I write about because I have researched them. And then there are things I write about because I have lived them. Joint pain falls into the second category.
It is not going to be my practice to recommend specific products.
For years, I dealt with pain in my knees, hands, feet, ankles, and neck joints. I tried creams. I tried ointments. I tried different approaches. Some smelled so strongly that I didn't want to use them, while others simply didn't seem to do enough. Eventually, I began looking for something that could support my joints from the inside rather than simply putting something on the outside. That search eventually led me to Purity Products’ H.A. Joint Formula.
I originally wrote about my experience with H.A. I wasn't planning to become a spokesperson for it. In fact, I specifically said that recommending individual products wasn't going to become my practice. But after taking this particular formula for years, I felt that my experience was worth sharing.
What Exactly Is H.A.?

The “H.A.” in H.A. Joint Formula stands for hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found throughout the body, including in connective tissues. One of its important characteristics is its ability to bind water. That water-binding ability is particularly interesting when we start talking about joints, because healthy joints need lubrication and cushioning to move comfortably. And this is where I think it is important to understand something:
H.A. Joint Formula isn't simply a hyaluronic-acid capsule. The formula combines several ingredients intended to provide nutritional support for the joints.
According to the current product information, each capsule contains BioCell Collagen® providing hydrolyzed type II collagen, chondroitin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid, along with vitamin C, magnesium, IP6, quercetin, olive extract, and 5-Loxin® Boswellia serrata extract.
I had researched the top 3 ingredients and had taken a couple of them individually. So, that combination is one of the reasons I paid attention to this particular formula.
Why Collagen Caught My Attention
When I started researching joint health, I learned that cartilage isn't simply “padding” between our bones. Cartilage is living tissue with a complex structure, and collagen is an important component of that structure. H.A. Joint Formula uses BioCell Collagen®, which contains hydrolyzed type II collagen, chondroitin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid. The current label lists 600 mg of hydrolyzed type II collagen, 200 mg of chondroitin sulfate, and 100 mg of hyaluronic acid within 1,000 mg of BioCell Collagen®.
What About Hyaluronic Acid?
This is the ingredient that originally made me curious about the formula. Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in joint tissues and synovial fluid. Because it binds water, it plays an important role in the physical properties of tissues where lubrication and cushioning matter. Interestingly there has also been research examining oral hyaluronic acid—not just the hyaluronic acid used in injections.
One randomized, placebo-controlled study followed people with knee osteoarthritis for a year and found that oral hyaluronic acid, when combined with quadriceps-strengthening exercise, was associated with improvement in symptoms, particularly among participants age 70 or younger. Another randomized trial of an oral hyaluronate preparation reported improvements in pain and functional measures compared with placebo after treatment. That doesn't mean that swallowing hyaluronic acid is equivalent to receiving a medical injection into a joint. It isn't, but it does make the subject considerably more interesting than I originally realized.
And Then There Is Chondroitin in the World of Joint Pain.
Chondroitin is another familiar name. It is a naturally occurring component of cartilage and is frequently studied in connection with osteoarthritis. The H.A. Joint Formula provides 200 mg of chondroitin sulfate as part of its BioCell Collagen® complex. Research on chondroitin has produced mixed results, which is another reason I don't want to oversell it.
Joint health is complicated. There isn't one magic ingredient that works exactly the same way for everybody. I can just say that I have taken H.A. Joint Formula for 20 years now, and it has made a definite difference in the aging of my joints.
I don't mean to imply, “Take this and your arthritis will disappear.” This is what I personally experienced, this is what is in the product, and this is what the research is beginning to tell us. Those are three different things.
Also Note: There are several H.A. products, even within the Purity Company.
My recommendation is for THIS specific product. There are major differences in the other products that I can't recommend because I did not have the same results when tested. (i.e., Ultimate H.A., H.A. Joint and Skin Super Formula)
*When trying to determine MY personal dosage of herbs and supplements, I always evaluate only one new product at a time. I begin with half the recommended dosage shown on the bottle label and pay close attention to my body's reactions. I watch for any side effects and then adjust the dosage daily, increasing or decreasing it until I achieve the desired effect while ensuring not to surpass the recommended dosage.
