When Jesus returns, He will gather His people from the earth and meet them in the clouds. Those that died will be awakened from their graves and the living will be caught up after them.
1Thess 4:16-17, Rev 20:1-4
The scriptures show a clarifying insight into this awe-inspiring event. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, the dead in Christ will rise first, signifying that those who have died with faith in Jesus will receive their eternal reward before those who are still alive. After the dead have risen, the living believers will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. This passage emphasizes the hope and comfort that believers can rely on in the promise of resurrection and eternal life.
Moreover, the Book of Revelation, especially Revelation 20:1-4, adds another layer of understanding to the event. It speaks of the binding of Satan and the establishment of Christ's reign on earth, a period often referred to as the Millennium. During this time, all those who have been resurrected will reign with Christ, participating in His kingdom and experiencing the fulfillment of God's ultimate plan for humanity. This reign signifies not just a physical gathering but also a spiritual triumph over evil, where believers will enjoy peace and righteousness in the presence of their Savior.
In essence, the Second Coming of Jesus is a pivotal moment in the Christian study of the last events, filled with hope and the promise of eternal life. It serves as a reminder of the faithfulness of God and the assurance that those who trust in Him will be united with Him forever. The anticipation of this event encourages believers to live in a manner that reflects their faith, looking forward to the day when they will be with their Lord in glory.
